How Marfan Syndrome is Inherited
How is it inherited?
This condition is inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern, which means one copy of the altered gene in each cell is sufficient to cause the disorder. There is a 50 percent chance that a person with Marfan syndrome will pass along the genetic mutation. At least 25 percent of Marfan syndrome cases occur in people with no history of the disorder in their family. This point mutation in the FBN1 gene is located on chromosome 15.
